Effective hiring is about more than finding someone who meets the qualifications on a résumé. It involves identifying the right talent, communicating professionally, evaluating candidates fairly, verifying relevant credentials, and creating a positive candidate experience from the first contact through the final hiring decision.
The following Best Practices checklist is offered as a suggestion to provide a structured approach. Personalize it to fit best with your organization’s needs and means.

- Post a Job – Create a clear job description outlining responsibilities, essential qualifications, required skills, personality preferences, compensation range, and work arrangements. See Sample Job Posting.
- Manage Your Job Postings – Use the Listings option on the Employer Portal to View, Edit, or Delete a job posting.

- Contact Candidates – When you identify a candidate who is potentially a good fit for your job opening, message them. You can use BlossomLink or your own email or messaging systems. You may wish to update the Application status to Read.
- Conduct Initial Screening Calls – Confirm the candidate’s interest, relevant experience, compensation expectations, availability, and alignment with the position’s requirements.
- Prepare and Conduct Structured Interviews – Ask consistent, job-related questions that assess technical abilities, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and relevant experience. Give candidates an opportunity to ask questions.
- Evaluate Candidates Objectively – Use a standardized scorecard to compare qualifications, interview responses, and practical assessments. Base decisions on evidence rather than personal bias or subjective impressions.
- Verify References and Credentials – Confirm relevant employment history, education, professional licenses, and references. Conduct appropriate background checks with required disclosures, authorizations, and legal safeguards.
- Make and Communicate the Hiring Decision – Select the candidate who best meets the role’s requirements, document the decision, provide a clear written offer, and communicate respectfully with unsuccessful candidates.
- Maintain Compliance and Improve the Process – Protect candidate information, follow applicable employment laws, keep accurate hiring records, and review recruitment outcomes to improve hiring quality, efficiency, and candidate experience.
