Description
We are seeking a skilled and mission-minded Remote Web Developer to maintain, optimize, and expand our digital front door. As a small church, our website is often the very first place a person experiences our community. We are looking for a reliable professional who can ensure our online presence is welcoming, functional, and smoothly integrated with our ministry tools.
This is a 100% remote, flexible position requiring roughly 5–15 hours per month, making it an excellent opportunity for a freelancer or a developer looking to support a local ministry.
Start Date: December 1, 2027
Core Responsibilities
- Website Maintenance: Keep the primary church website updated with weekly sermon uploads, updated service times, current events, and ministry announcements.
- Giving & Form Integrations: Manage and secure our online tithing and donation infrastructure, ensuring seamless transactions and registration workflows for events.
- System Integration: Connect our website to our Church Management System (ChMS) (such as Planning Center, Rock RMS, or ChurchTrac) and email marketing platforms.
- Optimization & Accessibility: Monitor site performance, fix broken links, resolve mobile responsiveness issues, and ensure web accessibility standards (WCAG) are met for all members of the congregation.
- Security & Backups: Routine monitoring of website security, software updates, plugin compatibility, and scheduled off-site backups.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years of web development experience with a strong portfolio of functional websites.
- CMS Expertise: Deep familiarity with WordPress or standard church web builders (e.g., The Church Co, FinalWeb).
- Frontend Tech: Proficient in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to implement custom layouts and fix broken styling.
- Communication & Independence: Self-motivated and comfortable collaborating asynchronously via tools like Slack, Zoom, or email.
- Mission Alignment: While you do not need to be a theologian, you must respect the church's values, mission, and statement of faith, understanding how technology serves the congregation.
